Surfer Blood Recruit Producer Phil Ek for Sophomore LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 18, 2011

Earlier this month, we learned that Best Coast are working with studio whiz Jon Brion on their second album. Now, we've gotten news of another high-profile collaboration: Surfer Blood are working with Phil Ek.

This week, Surfer Blood tweeted, "Starting preproduction for lp2 with chill ek 420 aka phil eck!"

Despite the fact that the band seem to be having some trouble with spelling Ek's name, this is exciting news. After all, Surfer Blood were one of 2010's breakthrough acts, while Ek has previously worked with bands like Fleet Foxes, the Shins, the Dodos and Band of Horses.

They also tweeted photos from the studio, plus what looks to be a list of possible song titles. We can't wait to hear "Cod Playas" and "Golden Boyz."

This sophomore LP will be Surfer Blood's first major label release, since they signed with Warner Bros. last year. Their recent Tarot Classics EP dropped via Kanine Records, the same label behind their debut Astro Coast. Listen to EP cut "Miranda" below.
