Surfer Blood, the Antlers, Band of Skulls and YACHT Go Barefoot for Charity
Today (April 8) is One Day Without Shoes, which means that, just like some of our rock star friends, it's time to kick off our comfy sneakers and our business loafers to go barefoot.

The event's official website states, "We are asking people to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes, barefoot to experience a life without shoes first-hand, and to help spread awareness of the impact a simple pair of shoes can bring to a child's life."

This year, the event, which is supported by footwear retailer TOMS, has attracted the help of musical acts Surfer Blood, the Antlers, Band of Skulls, YACHT, Nneka, Ozomatli, Riverboat Gamblers, Sliimy, Never Shout Never and more to help spread the word. As with every year, TOMS will also donate a pair of shoes to charity for every pair bought on the day.

"There are people around the world who go through life without something as simple as a pair of shoes," Surfer Blood front-man John Paul Pitts laments in the promo video below, to which he and a number of others add the sentiment, "We plan to perform barefoot."

A second video below outlines the intentions of the event, and provides plenty of reasons to go barefoot today. Although, if you work in a restaurant, we ask that you please abstain, and buy a pair of shoes instead.
