Not to be confused with the identically titled hit by the Who, indie rock Floridians Surfer Blood have shared a new track called "I Can't Explain" from their upcoming LP 1000 Palms.
Like the previous single "Dorian," this tune mixes brawny rock with sleepy pop balladry, as simmering rhythms set the backdrop for a tale of a romantic encounter on New Year's Eve.
In a statement [via Consequence of Sound], frontman John Paul Pitts explained that the song was written collaboratively by the band and said, "I've always been keen on a long instrumental outro, so this seemed like the perfect spot for a long, jammy guitar section — a place for us to get some Yo La Tengo/Built to Spill guitar fetishizing out of our system."
Surfer Blood will release 1000 Palms on May 12 through Joyful Noise/Fierce Panda.
