Well, here's a pleasant surprise. After just releasing the Exclaim!-approved Leaves the Gutter EP, indie rock trailblazers Superchunk have announced they have yet another new release coming up this summer. Like Leaves the Gutter, though - the band's first proper release since 2001 - it's not a full-length, but this time a new seven-inch single.
On July 7, Merge will put out Superchunk's slab of wax, which will come with the new track "Crossed Wires" on the A-side and "Blinders (Fast Vers.)" on the flip. Both tracks were laid down with producer Scott Solter, and the release is being limited to 1,000 copies. Each will be pressed up on clear vinyl with the above image serving at the cover art, and each will also come with a download code so you can listen to both tracks digitally, as well as a demo version of the A-side. To order a copy, you can click here.
As previously reported, Superchunk will be pretty busy this summer. They are holding Merge Records' 20th anniversary festival in the band's home state of North Carolina in July, as well as playing New York's South Street Seaport. The band also recently did the Coachella thing, and got a bunch of groups to cover their tracks on the SCORE: 20 Years of Merge: The Covers compilation. So yeah, busy, busy, just not busy-making-a-new-album busy.
