Many would argue that a plate of fruits and greens is a proper first course, but Brooklyn indie rock outfit Suckers are defying conventions with their second serving, Candy Salad.
Frenchkiss Records, who deliver the set on April 24, tout the disc as a more mature, though no less body movin', follow-up to the group's 2010 debut Wild Smile. The record differs in its approach namely because the ten-song set was captured all at once at New York studio Vacation Island with Matt Boynton (Black Dice, MGMT), whereas the last LP was recorded piecemeal.
While sound samples have yet to be unveiled, the press release touts touches of Britpop ("Lydia") and Eno-style soundscapes ("Figure It Out") on the record, while adding that "Going Nowhere" is the most straightforward song the eccentric outfit have delivered yet. Apparently untouched is vocalist Quinn Walker's soaring falsetto.
That's its groan-worthy, food-prep artwork, just one step above Spinal Tap's Shark Sandwich, up above.
On top of the new album, Suckers have announced a North American tour. A round of dates takes place in March, but the group won't hit Canada until the second leg of the trip, which takes place in May. So far, it looks as if they'll make it to this side of the border only once, hitting up Vancouver's Media Club on May 14. You can see the rest of the dates below.
