TRACK OF THE DAY: Strange Boys' debut, And Boys Club, was a good, if somewhat redundant garage rock record in the style of the Black Lips. But what a difference a year makes. The Texas crew managed to poach a pair of members from now defunct Los Angeles band Mika Miko. And while it's uncertain if the new members will appear on the band's sophomore album, Be Brave, early indicators are that the new disc will push the boundaries thrown down by their debut.
The debut single and self-titled track finds Strange Boys abandoning the breakneck pace of their debut and stretch out into a comfortable groove, complemented by what sounds like a nice saxophone solo. Of course, lo-fi retro fuzz pervades the entire thing. Be Brave, the album, drops February 23.
