In 2008, Portland, OR-based indie electronica group Starfucker released their self-titled debut. The album was somewhat of a hit, landing the group major gigs and licensing deals for their songs. Worried that they might limit themselves with their curse-heavy name, the changed their moniker to Pyramiddd, releasing the Jupiter EP a year later. Well, in 2010, they're called Starfucker again, and they've just signed with Polyvinyl Records.
According to a press release, the band acknowledges that their name change was a mistake. "I like, and have always liked, the idea of seeing what we could do with a stupid name like Starfucker," frontman Joshua Hodges said.
Bassist Shawn Glassford added, "[The name change] was definitely the low point for the band, but we wised up and took the power back. We're doing things our way again without anyone trying to pull our strings."
Now that they've signed with Polyvinyl, Starfucker have prepared their second full-length for release in early 2011. Prior to that, the group will release "Julius" backed with "Helium Muffin" on seven-inch on October 12. The single will be available digitally on September 14. Right now, you can download the A-side here.
This fall, Starfucker will embark on a North American tour in support of the Octopus Project. The bands will cover a large portion of the continent, including Canadian dates in Montreal and Toronto.
