On their first full-length offering to the outer gods, Eroded Corridors of Unbeing, Spectral Voice have created a monolith of death doom grandeur that threatens to crush all of civilization under its weight

Having honed their craft over several demos and splits since 2012, every track here sounds fittingly huge, manifesting expansive sonic landscapes with droning doom riffs, interspersed with harmonic strings that echo over the desolation. The instrumental track "Lurking Gloom" is a practice in potent atmosphere, whilst "Dissolution" amps up the brutality, embracing its death metal heritage to great effect.

Amongst the five, though, "Visions of Psychic Dismemberment" undoubtedly has the greatest scope. The band infuse eerie sections of synth into the track that heightens the atmosphere as they paint a vivid picture of distant star clusters before being thrust into cataclysm by a sudden tempest of ground zero death metal, going from one extreme of pace to the other. The vocals also take some surprising turns, from a more prominent abyssal growl to a vomitous retch. Spectral Voice retain a rawness in their production, too; the members sound like they're actually just playing in a chasm on Yuggoth.

Eroded Corridors of Unbeing is a masterful work of death doom extremity that shifts from instilling dread to exuding pure adrenaline with seeming ease. Spectral Voice present a sound that is at once both familiar and strange, reflective of their influences but particular to themselves.

Fans of groups like Hooded Menace, Sunn O))) and Krypts MUST hear this record, but Spectral Voice could also be the astral gateway for many a metal head into the doom sub-strata of metal, which seems to be slowly becoming one of the most dominant in extreme music.
