Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation Getting Documentary Treatment Courtesy of Lance Bangs

If you don't recognize the name Lance Bangs, a cursory glance at the list of bands he's worked with - R.E.M., Pavement, Belle and Sebastian, Nirvana and the Black Keys, among others - should calm any nerves over his handling of a new documentary about Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation. Yes, that's right, the New York rock'n'roll experimentalists are getting an entire film dedicated to their seminal 1988 album.

As Bangs recently told The Playlist, "I'm finishing a movie with Sonic Youth for Daydream Nation made of documentary footage over the years."

Unfortunately, that's all Bangs has given us to this point. No details, no nothing.

But of course, we're beyond excited. Besides the many documentaries and live films he's done, Bangs has also been responsible for some kick-ass music videos by Arcade Fire, the Shins, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Death Cab, and Kanye West, and all the bands he's done documentaries with.

Bangs' latest film is The Lazarus Effect, which The Playlist calls "an insightful and hopeful documentary about the AIDS crisis in Africa, with the focus on crucial antiretroviral (AVR) drugs."

Oppositely, he's also working on a 3-D Jackass movie. Go figure.
