Sled Island Now Accepting Submissions

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 5, 2009

Arguably Calgary's proudest achievement since the 1989 Stanley Cup, Sled Island is an annual festival that has grown substantially in its first two years of existence. Hosting a wide range of fantastic artists in small, intimate venues across the city, as well as a main-stage set-up outside, the festival has welcomed a large share of both indie superstars and up-and-comers. Last year's excellent fest played host to the likes of No Age, Deerhunter, Broken Social Scene, Yo La Tengo and Fucked Up, as well as a slew of independent Canadian bands.

While no initial line-up for the 2009 festival has been announced, it has been revealed that the organizers are now accepting submissions. In a statement, the organizers reiterated that they're "looking for a wide range of bands that stray outside the boundaries of commercial rock, whether you've been around for six months or six years." They also revealed that this year's guest curator will be Colin Newman from Wire, so we can expect a healthy dose of post-punk.

Artists selected to play will receive free wristbands to the entire festival, as well as $100. More info can be read here.
