Calgary's Sled Island is getting underway extra early this year, with organizers having revealed plans to host a free pre-party show featuring a headlining set from Canadian hip-hop figure Shad.
The free concert is being held at Lukes Drug Mart's on June 8, with the Flying Colours MC taking the marquee spot for the evening. Also appearing, however, will be Seattle's Tacocat, Vancouver grunge-pop players Dead Soft and local unit Night Committee.
The show is an early one, running at Lukes from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and it's an all-ages gig. This is the second annual pre-party stage at Lukes, with the 2013 installment having featured performances from Rural Alberta Advantage and Ladyhawk.
As for Sled Island proper, the fest takes place June 18 to 22. As previously reported, a number of acts including White Lung, Blitzen Trapper and Mission of Burma were recently added to a roster of artists appearing that includes St. Vincent, Spiritualized, Rocket From the Crypt, Killer Mike, Rhye, Neko Case and more.
