Shania Twain Apologizes After Saying She Would Have Voted for Trump

That don't impress me much

Shania Twain is a Canadian icon, but that evidently doesn't exclude her from getting involved in controversial debates about U.S. politics. Now, she has issued an apology after making some pro-Trump comments in an interview.

Speaking with The Guardian in a profile posted today, Twain said she would have voted for Trump back in 2016 if she were American. She said, "I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn't be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don't want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?"

That quote didn't impress her fans much, and the backlash began soon after, resulting in Twain posting a string of tweets in an attempt to clarify her views. She said that she doesn't endorse Trump and that she doesn't support discrimination of any kind.
All in all, it's not the best quagmire for Twain to wade into as she embarks upon a massive North American tour in the coming months. The outing includes lots of Canadian shows, stretching as far west as Vancouver and as far east as Quebec City. See the itinerary here.
