In a flagrant act of anachronism, Vancouver musician Chris Van Der Laan's Shame Spiral project have followed up this spring's keyboard-heavy Demonstration II: Drive Home with a more guitar-oriented outing called Demonstration I: Away Team Cheerleader.
While the first Shame Spiral EP was focused on bizarre, motivational chants and kinda crappy keyboard sounds, a more traditional band plays the tunes on this newest release. It's explained over Bandcamp that the recording sessions were started back in 2007 but only recently completed.
The makeup of the band is drummer Van Der Laan, guitarists Dann Tompkins and Mark Colavecchia (North of America), vocalist Courtney Ewan (Twin River), and bassist Tom Hillifer, meaning this is basically a long-lost Slim Fathers collection.
You can hear the spindling, post-punk-flavoured second iteration of Shame Spiral down below, while another two volumes are expected to arrive later this year. Van Der Laan will compile all four releases as a cassette box set this November through his Boat Dreams from the Hill imprint.
