Los Angeles post-punks Sextile emerged from the underground back in 2015, releasing a couple of albums before disbanding after the release of their 3 EP in 2018. Melissa Scaduto and Brady Keehn reunited the following year after the death of their former bandmate Eddie Wuebben. Now, they're back as a trio, with guitarist/synth player Cameron Michel returning to the fold, and signed to Sacred Bones — through which they'll release their third album.
Push is due September 15, and sees the band propel their darkwave past toward dance music. "We talked about how one of the criteria for these songs is, 'Would I be able to actually dance to it?' I don't think we've ever set that criteria before," Scaduto said in a press release. "We wanted to have a record that is just full of dance songs."
The LP features recent single "Crassy Mel," as well as today's new release, "New York." According to Scaduto, the latter — a propulsive techno/acid house jam — was written in dedication to the city she was born in. You can watch the "New York" music video below.
Sextile will also be embarking on a North American tour this fall in support of Push, which will bring them to Canada for a few shows. The trek begins with a hometown album release gig at the Fonda. They'll traverse the border to play Montreal's Bar Le Ritz on October 14, Toronto's Lee's Palace on October 15 and Vancouver's Fox Cabaret on October 24, with the rest of the concerts taking place in the US — including their final performance of the run on October 27 in Pomona, CA.
