See You Next Tuesday

Intervals

After a brief intro and a few seconds of build-up, Michigan’s See You Next Tuesday (C.U.N.T., har har) get down to business with a beat down-worthy of Shattered Realm, then tear through just under half-an-hour of dissonant grindcore with commendable enthusiasm. Those familiar with their first effort, Parasite, may be taken aback by the lack of moshable rhythms this time around, although the group still occasionally take it back to the dance floor. For the most part, Intervals displays a more abrasive slant on the deathcore genre, occasionally paying tribute to founding fathers such as Pig Destroyer and Brutal Truth while still bearing the unmistakable stamp of the modern metalcore scene. While the raw production and exuberance displayed throughout sets them apart somewhat, there is very little to latch onto here, and the band lack the focused aggression of some of the more established acts in the genre. While it’s nice to see more generic, marketable influences jettisoned in favour of a less accessible sound, more distinctiveness will be required for See You Next Tuesday to make a name for themselves in this day and age.
