Calgary three-piece Scratch Buffalo will self-release their self-titled debut album on May 18, but Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to it in its entirety right now.
The band's sound was honed with the help of producer Hutch Harris of the Thermals. He worked with songwriter Chris Naish, helping him and his bandmates zero in on their own surf-y, punk sound — which isn't to say that they'll sound the same way forever.
"Our only concept, or guiding principle, is to represent who we are at this moment," the group tell Exclaim! "This album is 11 snapshots of life — a candid collection played loudly by three people on two days this past February."
The record bursts out of the gate with opener "Piranha," that's got as much bite as the title implies. The peppy energy continues through on cuts like "Kill the Sky" and "Ghost Inside My Head," eventually bringing the record to a close with the surprisingly soft palette cleanser "Let Em Fall."
