Regarded as extremely talented musicians in their own right, combining these three into a trio is like placing musical apples and oranges together in front of a microphone and seeing what happens. The result: discordant jazz jams. The common ground here is a heavy influence from the late great Jaco Pastorius, whose punchy and debonair funk bass guitar phrasings drive the pulse of the music, and in an odd way remind me of the soundtrack to the Dr. Who TV series. The manner in which these three musicians play is disjointed, to say the least. At times it works, and at others does not, but maybe that is the point: to stay away from being too progressive. Consider it a musical adaptation of the Sisyphus story, as seen and heard on PBS.
