After hinting at the imminent release of a new record late last month, ScHoolboy Q has now announced that he's put the release on hold following the death of friend and collaborator Mac Miller.
As XXL reports, Q informed fans of his decision during a recent show, telling the crowd, "With my n***a gone right now, I just don't feel right putting out an album."
"As y'all can tell, I'm not my real self right now. I shouldn't even be here, right now," he explained. "But like I said, my n***a Mac would not want me in the house sad. He would clown me for some weird shit. So, like I said, I'm here today 'cause it's no way he would allow me to sit in the house and be a little bitch. I'm not gon' be a little bitch. I'm out here."
Back in July, Top Dawg Entertainment label boss Anthony Tiffith tweeted that Q's next album was "90 to 95% done." In late August, Q hinted at the release in a pair of Instagram posts, showing him at work in the studio alongside Tyler, the Creator.
Q continued: "Ima go back, and Ima figure out when Ima put this fucking album out, because y'all are going to get this album. I promise that. I'm just not ready to walk in the radio station and the first thing they ask me is 'So Mac Miller...' I'm not ready to deal with the questions they have. So right now I'm not ready to put nothing out right now. I'm sorry."
Miller was found dead at his home in the San Fernando Valley of a suspected overdose earlier this month (September 7). He was 26. The artist's cause of death is still unclear.
ScHoolboy Q last delivered his Blank Face LP in 2016.
