Slow and steady wins the race for Said the Whale, as their new single "Sweetheart" joins the ranks of songs released from their upcoming album Dandelion.
As co-frontman and songwriter Ben Worcester noted in a statement, their new single examines what we share, and more importantly, what we don't share with the ones we love. "'Sweetheart' is an exploration of secrets," he said. "How (and why) we keep them, who we keep them from, and how they affect our relationships."
Worcester elaborated on the inspiration for "Sweetheart":
This song doesn't refer to a specific moment or circumstance in my life, but instead speaks to the idea in general — how revealing our innermost thoughts and fears can serve to weaken some bonds but other times can actually strengthen them — the beauty of sharing a secret with a lover, keeping something hidden from the world, a covenant of mutual trust.
The new release comes accompanied by a cinematic video, in keeping with the previously released singles from Dandelion. Their latest track is the fifth addition to their slow-build album release alongside "Show Me Everything," "99 to the Moon," "Everything She Touches Is Gold to Me" and "Honey Lungs." The album will be released on October 22 by the Vancouver-based band's frontman, Tyler Bancroft, through his own label, Everything Forever.
