Barron Machat, the co-founder and CEO of Hippos in Tanks, has passed away at the age of 27. The cause of his death has not been confirmed.
Machat started the Los Angeles-based label back in with co-founder Travis Woolsey. The two met while working at a web company before hosting a radio show called Hippos in Tanks together in 2009. By June 2010, the pair left their jobs to start the electronic label of the same name.
Their first release was an EP from Von Haze, though Hippos in Tanks has gone on to put out music from Arca, Dean Blunt, d'Eon, James Ferraro and Laurel Halo. After Woolsey left the label in 2011, Machat continued to serve as the company's CEO.
Arca, Oneohtrix Point Never's Daniel Lopatin and Laurel Halo were amongst the musicians who paid tribute to the late label manager on Twitter.
No official statement has been issued by the label, and the Hippos in Tanks website was inactive at the time of publication.

Woke up by a phone call from a friend about the news of Barron's passing. He was a passionate and kind person. In shock, too young to go.
