Radiohead to Publish Free King of Limbs Newspaper

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 24, 2011

While last month Radiohead dropped their latest album, The King of Limbs, digitally, there's still the physical release to deal with. We know that the standard edition comes out March 29 on these shores, and that the crazy box set will follow shortly thereafter, but what about people who might not be up on their blog news? Radiohead has figured out how to placate the others: they're launching a newspaper.

Fan page TheKingOfLimbsPt2.com reports that the band will publish a newspaper called The Universal Sigh on March 28, the day The King of Limbs is released in Europe, to promote the new disc. Oddly, so far it looks as though the publication is only being pressed in two countries: Greece and Poland.

UPDATE 1: Radiohead have now confirmed The Universal Sigh newspaper release. The Universal Sigh website has gone live, sharing the statement found at the bottom of this page. They have also listed locations where you can grab the newspaper. And, yep, there are some in Canada and the U.S., as well as in several other countries across the globe. However, while Europe while get the newspaper on March 28, North America will get the release on March 29. Also, do not confuse this with the limited "newspaper edition" of The King of Limbs. The Universal Sigh is a separate release.

TheKingOfLimbsPt2.com did some Google translating on its sources and came up with the following.

From the Greek website Hit-Channel:

A unique offering for fans of Radiohead!

A unique opportunity to have the Greek Radiohead fans to get the newspaper created for their new album
The King Of Limbs, as they themselves describe as the first album-newspaper has ever released! The newspaper will be distributed to the first lucky ones to be found in Metropolis (University 54), Monday, March 28, at 2:00 in the afternoon. H newspaper will be available only in this event and will not be released anywhere else! Each person can be photographed on the spot and see the picture of rising at the same time the special site set up (www.theuniversalsigh.com) and will host the photos of people from every corner of the planet where something similar happens. The purpose of Radiohead is to communicate with their fans worldwide, the day of release their new album The King Of Limbs, which has already been much discussed, even before the release. See you then in Metropolis, Monday, March 28, at 2:00 in the afternoon!

You can read a similar piece on a Polish website here.

It's unclear what exactly will be inside the newspaper, or what taking a photograph of customers holding their freshly printed copies of The Universal Sigh means, but some are hoping we will get some info on whether or not we're going to be hearing a King of Limbs Pt. 2 in the near future.

Thanks to One Thirty BPM for the tip.

UPDATE 2: Just in case you doubt the existence of this newspaper, one has already been listed -- and bought -- on eBay. See the listing here.
