Detroit's Protomartyr are putting a twist on Steppenwolf's rock'n'roll lore with their new single, a punnily titled piece of art punk called "Born to Be Wine." You can drink it up for free, as it's the latest track to arrive as part of Adult Swim's ongoing online single series.
Not quite as juiced up and jittery as what's found on the band's 2015 breakthrough, The Agent Intellect, the new track unwinds sloppily as a series of lubricated guitar notes and stumbled rhythms. Joe Casey offers up his sprechgesang musings on loneliness, liquor and "what lays beneath the ocean."
