Like it does every fall, the long-running Pop Montreal festival will be bringing out a number of big-gun indie acts when it takes over the city September 19 to 23. Already so far, we know that Grizzly Bear, Lil B and Hot Snakes will be appearing across city stages, but organizers have just unveiled even more top-notch draws to the lineup.
On a locally minded tip, fest planners announced they've brought Edmonton-raised but Montreal-based hip-hop poet Cadence Weapon to the proceedings, as well as one-time habitant and current experimental electro-pop queen Grimes. Also repping Montreal are hip-hop unit Alaclair Ensemble, Avec pas d'casque, Chevalier Avant Garde and indie troupe the Luyas, among others.
Other Canadian acts recently added to this year's Pop Montreal also include Edmonton duo Purity Ring and the recently reunited Change of Heart, while international music fans may celebrate that Parisian cult pop star Arthur H and U.S. dream poppers Wild Nothing will also perform.
As previously reported, the lineup also includes David Byrne and St. Vincent, Tim Hecker, K'naan, Chilly Gonzales, Patrick Wolf, Deerhoof, Gang Gang Dance, Jimmy "Bo" Horne, Gotye, Nicky Da B, Zammuto, Yamantaka//Sonic Tittan, Dâm-Funk, Andre Williams, Dirty Three, the Sadies, Julia Holter, Antibalas, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire and Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier, among others.
