This year has already given us one Fleet Foxes spinoff in Father John Misty's Fear Fun, and now another side-project from the the Seattle folk group has arrived. Poor Moon's self-titled debut LP drops on August 28 via Sub Pop Records, and you can stream the whole thing now on Exclaim.ca.
Poor Moon features Fleet Foxes members Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott, plus brothers Ian and Peter Murray. The band formed around songs written by Wargo over several years.
Wescott said in a statement, "There was a point where he'd [Wargo] emailed us a couple albums' worth of songs. There was so much material sitting on iPods and in mailboxes, more ideas than could fit on one record." These personal demos had full arrangements and instrumentation, so a four-piece band was formed to perform them.
The album was recorded in various Seattle studios with engineer/mixer Jared Hankins. A press release notes that it includes oddball instrumentation like "marimba, harpsichord, fretless zither" and more.
Listen to what the band cooked up below, and check out their upcoming tour schedule here.
UPDATE: This stream was available for one week only and is no longer available.
