Ozma

The Doubble Donkey Disc

BY Roman SokalPublished Sep 1, 2002

For those who are not exactly pleased with the route Weezer has taken for the past couple of years, you might be able to seek solace within the adventurous pop music landscape that Ozma are cultivating. Think of Weezer's Pinkerton, but add a subconscious injection of jazz-fusion and multi-ethnic sounds set upon a surfboard headed straight to an island where the mentally ill are happily condemned. This combination of their acclaimed Russian Coldfusion and Bootytraps EPs provide a peek into the bizarre world where Weezer could have gone if they didn't play it safe. Also slightly reminiscent of London, ON's the Weekend, especially with the keyboards, albeit somewhat more complex and driving.
