Baltimore's Oxes treat time signatures like boxing opponents, jabbing them in the kidneys and punching them in the jaw. With tempos and rhythms that lunge and duck, Oxes EP shows the band's talent at fashioning challenging sounds, displaying why they've attracted the attention of groups such as Wire and Mission of Burma. Traces of Don Caballero and Shellac's more caustic moments run through some of the instrumental songs. Throughout the disc, Oxes take elements of math rock and pound out some new equations.
