Owen Hart

Earth Control

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jan 17, 2011

Forcing concussions with their rabid grindcore verses, contorted by thick death metal bridges, chunky hardcore breakdowns and scorching demeanour, Tacoma, WA quartet Owen Hart are a dangerous unit. Then again, seeing as they've aligned with Vitriol Records (home to Graf Orlock, Dangers, Ghostlimb, etc.), it's no wonder full-length debut Earth Control is nothing but exhaustively amazing. The past six years of refinement in this camp have yielded one overwhelming blast of afflicted heaviness. The perfect example of organized chaos, Earth Control lurches between authoritative half-time progressions, shuffling low-end grooves and outright full-speed blast beats, often within the same song. Throw in toxic subject matter relayed via rumbling/shrieking vocal dirges and this ferrous compound forged with aspects of Morbid Angel's gloomy technicality, Carcass/Napalm Death's extremity and Entombed's looming heaviness is as magnetic as it is lethal.
