The saga of Jenny Omnichord’s star-studded Charlotte or Otis: Duets for Children, Their Parents, and Other People Too was laborious. Recording engineer/Two-Minute Miracles leader Andy Magoffin and Jenny Mitchell discovered they’d be parents, and Mitchell decided her new baby deserved the most musical birthday present possible. Many friends, including Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, Jim Guthrie, Shad, Scott Merritt, and Mathias Kom agreed to co-write and record Jenny Omnichord songs for kids, compiled together for a September 27 release — the infant’s due date. The 19-track collection was completed when, citing management pressure, Butler suddenly pulled his completed collaboration from the project, while Mitchell’s label weewerk also severed ties to the wonderful record. Undeterred, Mitchell picked up her freshly packaged CDs early and gave birth to Otis Andrew Mr. Bones Magoffin the very next day. The end.
