Despite having a song called "Champions of Red Wine" on their upcoming Brill Bruisers LP, the New Pornographers apparently enjoy a good cup of joe, too, having just announced their own signature blend prepped in partnership with Chicago coffeemakers Intelligentsia.
Having recently declared "War on the East Coast," the Canadian supergroup opted to team with the Midwest roasters to put together their punnily titled "Brill Brew." Apparently, the company caught wind of the band's coffee addiction, leading them to invite main man Carl Newman out to their Chelsea, NY location to try out some flavours. "Brill Brew" is a Kenyan-grown coffee that Intelligentsia describes as a "cheerful and sweet" brew featuring hints of "mango, nectarine, and green apple shine."
Newman said of the beany business move: "As absurd as it may seem for us to have a signature blend, I think it is important that there is some sort of marker, some flag planted in the earth, so that whoever walks into Intelligentsia, whoever drinks this, will know: 'The New Pornographers really really loved coffee.'"
You can pre-order a bag of "Brill Brew" now, with the coffee launching a day ahead of Brill Bruisers' August 26 North American release date through Matador/Last Gang Records. The $19.95 bag of coffee likewise comes with a download of the LP. You can also pick up a deluxe bundle with the coffee, the download, coffee mugs and totes, and you can find out more info over here.
As previously reported, the New Pornographers have a number of fall dates coming up with Pains of Being Pure at Heart. You'll find more info on the trip over here.
