You Will Now Need a Membership to Access All of Neil Young's Archive
Published May 14, 2018Neil Young recently announced that lots more unreleased material would be hitting his massive online Neil Young Archives in the near future. But as Young has now revealed, you will soon need to pay for a membership if you want to access the entire site.
In a Facebook post over the weekend, Young continued outlining the sizable online project, but at the same time, he announced two different membership tiers will come into effect on June 1.
While "parts of NYA will always be free," Young wrote that he will offer monthly memberships at $1.99, in addition to yearly memberships at $19.99.
At this point, the exact specifics of what sort of perks members will get remains unclear, but Young did say members would get access to pre-sale tickets to his shows first.
Calling the NYA "a giant time machine cabinet," Young wrote of the inclusion of "albums and tracks, bits and pieces, manuscripts and art, film and video" from throughout his career.
"Each song is being backed up with the archival material that relates to it and to the creation of it, from song writing to band jams, the history of this music is there," he wrote. "It's never finished, it is huge and growing. We work night and day expanding the window you can see this archival stuff through."
In the Facebook post, he called his archive "the place where I live on the web. I won't be here," potentially signalling a departure from the social media platform.
Young also added that a mobile version of the Neil Young Archives is slated to arrive this fall. You can read his entire post below.
Young recently performed with Crazy Horse for the first time in four years.
