Natron

Grindermeister

BY Greg PrattPublished Apr 30, 2012

This release features long-suffering Italian death metal crew Natron rearranging and re-recording some songs from their back catalogue, but you'd have to be a serious Italian death metal scholar to even notice. What every death metal fan will notice, however, is the seriously triggered drum sound ― there isn't much in the way of subtlety with those snare rolls when the drums sound like that, but "subtle" isn't what Natron are going for ― and the general air of second-tier that wafts off of this. But you know how if you're a death metal dude even second-tier death metal is good? Like, sometimes Jungle Rot just really hit the spot? There's no reason that Natron can't do that for you now and again, as they have the riffs, the delivery and the passion. They just need a production sound that isn't so processed and a producer to help them with a delivery that's not so stiff next time out.
