Headbangers, it is almost time for another uprising. According to Earache Records, Richmond, VA thrashers Municipal Waste are halfway through recording Massive Aggressive, the follow-up to their monumentally successful tertiary effort, The Art Of Partying. Released in 2007, that album has ushered Municipal Waste to the forefront of thrash metal's resurgence and garnered much praise from critics and fans alike. Let's put it this way: there aren't many bands who can say, "We're ready to record" and hair farmers shriek like schoolgirls.
When Municipal Waste initially announced plans to record, singer Tony Foresta was quick to dispel fears that the Waste might go mushy. Now, guitarist Ryan Waste and drummer Dave Witte assure us that they've managed to step up their unique brand of Nuclear Assault-meets-D.R.I. hyperactivity yet another notch.
"I'm really proud of the speed picking on the new record," says Waste. "[Producer] Zeuss is spot on for this record and we are thankful to have him in our neck of the woods this around. For Massive Aggressive, we are striving to capture elements from both traditional heavy metal and hardcore punk. When combined, the two genres can become a lethal formula. We're not afraid to bridge the gap on this one."
"This record is definitely shaping up to be the best we've done, easily," adds Witte. "I've already banged out all my tracks in one-and-a-half days and am totally pleased with the outcome... I think our fans are going to be psyched with this record and I can't wait to play these songs live!"
As with The Art Of Partying, the new album will be recorded at Red Planet Studios with producer Zeuss. It will be released in late August 2009 but in the meantime, catch Municipal Waste on the No Fear Energy Music Tour with Lamb Of God, As I Lay Dying, Children Of Bodom and God Forbid.
