The Mohawk Lodge Unveil Third Album, Book European and Canadian Tours

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 18, 2010

Vancouver's the Mohawk Lodge relocated to Toronto last year, but despite the new locale and the rotating line-up, not much appears to have changed: the group still specializes in gritty garage soul, and as with past releases, the group's third album will be issued via front-man Ryder Havdale's own White Whale Records.

The new LP is called Crimes and it will hit shelves on June 22. According to a press release, it was inspired by "the feeling of punching out a friend for f**king your girlfriend (a crime Havdale himself did a little time for)." It's also about emotional crimes of a more general kind, and promises to "[run] the gamete of loneliness and pain and somehow [find] a little light at the end of the tunnel."

Like its precursor, 2007's Wildfires, Crimes was mostly laid down in a cabin in Point Roberts, WA with producer Jordan Koop (Nu Sensae, Twin Crystals, Daniel Wesley). Guest vocals were provided by Vancouver musicians Dan Mangan, Leah Abrason (the Abramson Singers) and Fine Mist's Jay Arner. Head over to Mowhawk Lodge's MySpace to hear the album tracks "A Crime of Passion" and "Let Go."

Once the record drops, the band plan to release a video for each of the record's 11 songs, issuing one a month for the next year.

You can catch the Mohawk Lodge on the road this spring and summer. Havdale and co. will be starting off in Europe this month before returning to Canada for an Ontario-heavy tour beginning in June.
