For their third release, this super-advanced and acclaimed electro-pop band from Massachusetts sheds their complexities and turns up the minimalism to provide an otherworldly musical experience. The trio stick more to nature and let their beats travel on a dreamy acoustic jazz train that is somewhat akin to dub, but without the overused bass frequency conventions. They also flip the phase switch and throw an electronic beat over acoustic guitars, and one wonders whether the band think in surround sound. There are shades of the saccharine side of Sonic Youth here and the faint beats of Miles Davis and collegiate jam units, but the Mobius Band are most definitely superior and unique; they will keep you standing on air while their aqueous projections of shimmering rhythms and bleeps tingle your nervous system.
