In addition to solo work as Owen, plus acclaimed projects like Cap'n Jazz, American Football and Joan of Arc with his brother Tim, Chicago musician Mike Kinsella is a veteran of guitar-based American indie. His latest group, Their/They're/There, continue the prolificacy as they gear up to release their second EP of 2013.
Called Analog Weekend, the record features three new offerings from the group. The release was recorded at Ed Rose's Black Lodge Recording in one weekend, and in addition to the trio (which is rounded out by Evan Weiss of Into It. Over It. and Matthew Frank of Loose Lips Sink Ships), it also features James Dewees of the Get Up Kids adding some piano flourishes.
Three songs may seem a little brief while we're waiting for the band's debut full-length, but if lead single "New Blood" is any indication, the EP will pack a punch. In its four-and-a-half-minute runtime, the song explores loud-quiet dynamics, melodic vocal harmonies and those signature acrobatic Kinsella guitars.
Polyvinyl and Topshelf are teaming up to issue Analog Weekend on December 10.
Analog Weekend:
1. Curtain Call
2. New Blood
3. Travelers Insurance
