Mazzy Star Announce First New Album in 17 Years

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 16, 2013

Better late than never, hazy dream pop vets Mazzy Star have announced they'll be issuing their first full-length in 17 years this fall. Titled Seasons of Your Day, the record arrives September 24 through the group's own Rhymes of an Hour imprint.

A press release notes that the LP was tracked in California, and co-written and co-produced by founders David Roback and Hope Sandoval. This is the first album from Mazzy Star since 1996's Among My Swan, though the group did issue the "Common Burn" /"Lay Myself Down" single in 2011. Both songs will appear on the 10-song record, as will newly premiered single "California," a mystical strummer that you can stream below.

Beyond Roback and Sandoval, Seasons of Your Day captures performances from My Bloody Valentine's Colm Ó Cíosóig and late UK folk figure Bert Jansch, whom Roback had helped out on Jansch's 2006 solo set The Black Swan. Sandoval also sang on Jansch's "All This Remains" from his 2002 album Edge of a Dream.
