I never had the chance to see Marvelous Darlings, having moved to Toronto shortly after they stopped playing shows, but that doesn't mean I don't hear about how great they were all the time. Deranged has been kind enough to release Single Life, a compilation of seven-inch gems by the Toronto, ON band, fronted by Ben Cook (of Fucked Up and No Warning fame). Contained are 16 tracks full of power pop hooks – the cute as hell "Teenage Targets" and the rock'n'roll spit of "The Swords, the Streets" stand out – as well as five demos. Whether you're familiar with the Marvelous Darlings or new to the band, this LP is a great reminder of why their name is always uttered with an air of fond nostalgia, the token indication that a band made a dent in the scene during their short time together.
