It's been almost six months since Mark Sultan delivered his Whatever I Want and Whenever I Want LPs, so the prolific Montreal garage guru is no doubt just itching to release live set The War on Rock 'n' Roll on wax.
Previously available as a free online release, the collection was recorded last September at Clube Berlin in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in one take by Jonas Morbach. While originally preserved as one continuous track, the LP edition, which arrives via In the Red Records on Record Store Day (April 21), had to split the session into two sides.
"While you listen to this recording, keep in mind that it is one take, live, and that the sides of the LP split the recording, obviously due to vinyl's time limitations upon pressing," Sultan said in a statement, adding that the one-take recording was an experiment. "At the time of this recording, yes, I was hellbent on converting my live sound to what you hear on this LP. It had been my first and only attempt at this sound, and while I am myself curious how I pulled it off in that one take, and while I really enjoy how it sounds, I never tried doing it again."
If you're more interested in catching the solo retro rocker onstage, you're in luck. Sultan has just announced another lengthy tour, which will hit up a number of Canadian cities between Ontario and the Maritimes. You can see the schedule down below.
