Mark Lanegan Lines Up 'Imitations' Covers Album for Vagrant

Mark Lanegan's career has brought him through various projects and onto various labels, and the gravel-voiced singer is bringing himself to yet another imprint this year by delivering a covers set called Imitations via Vagrant on September 17.

Lanegan's first full-length for the label follows last year's Blues Funeral, which was issued by 4AD. Unlike that moody set of originals, a press release explains this latest collection finds the artist paying tribute to the records his parents played back in the '60s and early '70s, which Lanegan described in a statement as "music with string arrangements and men singing songs that sounded sad whether they were or not."

Tracks covered on the set include a strings-laden take on John Cale's "I'm Not the Loving Kind," which you can stream down below, as well as attempts at Nancy Sinatra's Bond classic "You Only Live Twice," and standards "Mack the Knife" and "Autumn Leaves." Also there are covers of more modern songs by Chelsea Wolfe and Nick Cave. You can see the tracklisting down below.

"For a long time I've wanted to make a record that gave me the same feeling those old records did, using some of the same tunes I loved as a kid and some that I've loved as I have gotten older," Lanegan added of Imitations. "This record is it."

North American tour dates are expected to be revealed sometime soon in support of the record, but in the meantime, you can peep the Mark Lanegan Band's European tour schedule beneath Imitations' tracklisting.
