At first, the combination of spa-ready atmospherics and hip-hop flow made Lil B's Rain in England seem like a joke. Now, however, less over-the-top lyricists are occupying similar terrain as they drop rhymes over hazy soundscapes. Take Oakland duo Main Attrakionz , who have just dropped some verses on a new track produced by Vancouver's own Babe Rainbow.
Anyone familiar with BR knows that this is no spa music, but the work of Cam Reed does pride itself on bleak emotions rather than traditional song structures or hooks. On "Who Am I," it's all synth haze and murkiness before the Attrakionz come in, bringing a drum beat with them.
