After struggling for years to put out his arguably disappointing 2011 effort Lasers, Lupe Fiasco is ready to move on and hopefully abandon the pop rap once and for all. Since dropping his Friend of the People mixtape last fall, he's had expectations rising for the long-awaited sequel to his 2006 breakthrough release Food & Liquor. We won't have to wait too much longer, either, as he's now revealed the release date.

Taking to his Facebook page, Lupe announced a September 25 release date for the album, which now has the lengthy title of Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1.

Little else is known about the record at this time, although Lupe did drop a new single called "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)" last month. The track, which definitely marks a return to form for the artist, can be streamed below.

Earlier this year, Lupe also mentioned that he was working on a joint album with Pharrell Williams, though no details on that project have emerged just yet.
