The indie pop repertoire has been significantly lacking odes to antibiotics, but Los Campesinos! are righting that wrong with their latest single. "5 Flucloxacillin" comes from the group's upcoming album Sick Scenes, and you can hear it now.
The track is a lot more pleasant than any of the afflictions the titular substance might be used to treat, delivering sunshine-y "oohs," acoustic strums and a buoyant backbeat.
"As time ticks by and I become entrenched in my thirties I realize I've now spent half of my life medicating and self-medicating for depression, acne, countless viral infections and, worst of all, relentless ingrown toenails," frontman Gareth Campesinos told Stereogum, revealing his inspiration for the song. "Most everyone I know struggles with their mental health and is trying to cope in whatever way they can, while baby-boomers chastise us millennials for the manner in which we attempt to find solace amidst, and fumble out of the mess they made for us."
Listen to "5 Flucloxacillin" below. Sick Scenes lands in full on February 24 via Wichita Recordings.
