Long-Lost Godspeed You! Black Emperor Cassette Allegedly Emerges Online

For Godspeed You! Black Emperor fans, All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling is the stuff of legend. This 1994 debut release came out in an extremely limited run and has never emerged on the internet, but that may soon change thanks to a Reddit user claiming to have unearthed a copy.

Over the weekend, a user going by the name Casketjack posted that he had bought the tape in the early '90s at Room 201, a record store in Moncton, NB. He was apparently advised to buy the tape, didn't like it, and subsequently forgot about it. He supposedly discovered it just the other day and shared his findings on Reddit.

This tape was reportedly released in a run of just 33. In a 2010 interview with
The 405 (and cited on the aforementioned Reddit thread), the band's Efrim Menuck said of the tape, "I don't know why it hasn't turned up on the internet yet. I've been looking."

In an attempt to prove that this is legit, Casketjack posted the above image of the tape (which looks like the images of the cassette that have previously emerged online), plus audio files of tracks purporting to be the final two songs on the A-side, "Random Luvly Moncton Blue(s)" and "Dadmomdaddy." Download them at your own discretion here [via Tiny Mix Tapes].

Casketjack updated his original post to say, "I've spoken to a friend who I trust and he's agreed to sell the cassette on eBay for me. Before It comes to that though, I've also emailed Constellation Records and explained how I came into possession of the cassette. I've also explained that there is a rabid fan base that would like nothing more than for me to post my rip of the cassette. I've asked them for permission to do so. I will not auction off the tape or post a rip of it until I hear from them one way or another."

In one final twist, Casketjack appears to have deleted his Reddit account, since his name no longer appears attached his posts. In other words, we may never know for sure whether this is a hoax, or if the tape might emerge online any day. Certainly, it wouldn't be the first hoax surrounding All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling.
