L.E.G.A.C.Y. Project Mayhem

If there was any doubt, let it now be said the Justus League is fit to take over this year. With Little Brother’s sophomore record currently receiving some finishing touches and group member Big Pooh’s solo debut already out in the streets, the time has come for some of the League’s other members to step up and prove its depth. Enter L.E.G.A.C.Y. (also known as …Leggy Hendrix), with a tenacious brand of emceeing he aims to serve notice that there’s a new kid on campus. Lyrics are raw and razor sharp, as this man of many aliases (Leggy Snipes one minute, the Abominable Flowman the next) mixes it up with clever wordplay and a freestyle-type flow that is at once fierce and deceptively casual. The album’s title, Project Mayhem, speaks to both the emcees versatility — L.E.G.A.C.Y. is equally adept carrying out pointed verbal assaults and touching on current events and life issues — and the album’s varied production. The music is handled almost exclusively by 9th Wonder, who turns in the type of characteristic tight beats and soul-laden sound fans have come to expect from the highly sought-after producer, though this time with a little more weight to compliment his verbal counterpart. The already stellar JL catalogue just got one more healthy addition. (Hall Of Justus/6 Hole)
