Back in the spring, Yukon Blonde spilled the beans that fellow BC boys Ladyhawk had recorded a new album, their first since 2008's Shots. The rugged indie rockers have been playing shows around Vancouver lately, but despite peppering their set with a few new tunes, Ladyhawk have been pretty tight-lipped about the LP. That changes now, as they've revealed the new album details in full.
The band's third full-length outing is called No Can Do, and it arrives October 9 via Triple Crown Audio Recordings.
As previously reported, the ten-song set was recorded by longtime producer Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Kathryn Calder) at his Burnaby, BC-based Hive Creative Labs, and a press release describes the record as Ladyhawk's "most assertive and soul stirring yet."
Sound samples have yet to arrive, but we've previously heard some awesome demo versions of the title cut and album opener "Footprints," both of which you can check out down below.
Triple Crown notes, however, that you can hear some previews over on their Bandcamp page starting August 23.
Speaking with Exclaim!, guitarist Darcy Hancock chalked the four-year layover between LPs up to exploring other musical avenues.
"It took so long to do this album because we started off just taking a break as we were burnt out from touring. Then all of our lives seemed to change," the six-stringer explains. "Ryan [Peters, drums] toured with Lightning Dust, Duffy [Driediger, guitars/vocals] worked on his record, and Sean started Slow Learners. We would get together and talk about making a record but nothing happened."
Following a few delays, Hancock took charge and nudged the rest of the band towards tracking No Can Do last fall. "I said fuck it and booked some studio time and some shows to pay for it."
After issuing two LPs an an EP through U.S. indie imprint Jagjaguwar, Ladyhawk opted to drop this next set through Triple Crown. The Vancouver label has a history with the troupe, having released Driediger's Duffy and the Doubters LP, as well as a full-length from Hancock and Peters' offshoot Sports.
Tour plans, if any, have yet to be announced, but Ladyhawk will be playing an outdoor show at Vancouver's Waldorf hotel on August 25 with Black Mountain, Basketball and Quest for Fire.
