Victoria, BC-based songwriter Kirsten Ludwig has a couple of albums under her belt, and she's signed to Oscar St. Records for LP number three. Ahead of We Get It Now, Exclaim! has the premiere of the new single "Something I Wanted to Know."

The tune is a yearning, elegant ballad in which reverb-shrouded electric guitars and patient rhythms set the backdrop for Ludwig's sighing melodies and wistful lyrics. It's a dream-pop approach to alt-folk songcraft.

Ludwig says of the tune:

"Something I Wanted to Know" is about the nostalgia of a time when I felt like I was able to fully receive kindness and love, and the memory of not being, seemingly, completely poisoned by love in every sense. Underneath it all, I think the longing of the actual song does not come from the superficial "want" of a new partner, but the undeniable need of finding out how to treat myself with the kindness I had been looking for almost all of my life.

The song was produced by Lugwig herself, along with indie mainstay Colin Stewart (New Pornographers, Dan Mangan, Black Mountain) at the Hive studio. Among the contributing musicians are New Pornographers member Kathryn Calder (who runs Oscar St. Records), plus singer-songwriter peers Layten Kramer and Alexandria Maillot.

Hear "Something I Wanted to Know" below. We Get It Now is out on October 26.
