Killswitch Engage

'Disarm the Descent' (album stream)

Back in 2012, Massachusetts metalcore lifers Killswitch Engage went through some big lineup changes, parting ways with singer Howard Jones and hooking back up with former frontman Jesse Leach. Luckily for fans, though, the band have emerged unscathed, lining up Disarm the Descent for a April 2 release via Roadrunner. For now, though, you can stream the entire album on Exclaim.ca.

The album is the band's sixth full-length and follows 2009's self-titled effort, but it's also Leach's first release with the group since 2002's Alive or Just Breathing.

"To me, this is by far my best vocal performance, much thanks to [producer] Adam [Dutkiewicz]'s guidance and faith in my abilities," Leach said in a statement. "I am very grateful to be where I am in life, back in an amazing band with a record we are all excited for the world to hear. Thanks to all the fans for their warm welcome back and their undying love for Killswitch Engage."

The album packed in a pile of Killswitch Engage anthems, such as "In Due Time," "A Tribute to the Fallen," "The Turning Point," "Beyond the Flames" and "The Call," all which could easily serve as singles. There's even the ballad-y "Always" thrown in for good measure.

"It's extremely different. We're talking a decade of growth, a decade of change and a decade of ups and downs," Leach added. "My confidence is intact; I know what to do with my instrument. I feel a lot more comfortable on stage; it just seems like a natural fit now. Ten years ago, I was a very different person. We've all been through enough life to know how to communicate better. That really helps with the vibe and overall scenery of the band. Coming back has been extremely easy. Communication is at an all time high right now and I think that's a great way to start; starting fresh."
