Kandle Announces Debut Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 30, 2014

Kandle Osborne used to play in the Blue Violets, but the Victoria, BC-based songwriter, who performs mononymously as Kandle, is now preparing to release her full-length solo debut. In Flames is due out on March 4 via Dare to Care Records.

The album was co-produced by Sam Goldberg of Broken Social Scene, along with Kandle's father, Neil Osborne of 54-40. Recording primarily took place at Greenhouse Studio with Warne Livesey (Matthew Good, Chris Walla).

Contributors include Béatrice Martin (a.k.a. Cœur de Pirate) and Sam Roberts. The latter collaborator said in a statement, "Kandle writes songs with a directness and an honesty few are brave enough to attempt — and she has the voice to drive the stake home."

A press release notes that the album has a "dark, etherial consciousness" and promises "haunting vocals, insightful lyrics, and spooky melodies." For a taste of this, stream the folk-noir number "Demon" and the moodily atmospheric "Control Me" at the bottom of this page.

The album will be available digitally and on CD or LP. It's available to pre-order, along with a couple of bonus cuts, on iTunes. Physical copies can be ordered on Bandcamp.

See the tracklist below, along with Kandle's rather minimal tour schedule, which consists of release shows in Montreal and Toronto in March.

This album follows Kandle's self-titled EP from 2012.
