Los Angeles virtuoso Julia Holter has earned much praise this year for the way her latest album Ekstasis blends electronic, indie and experimental influences. Her newest video from that record is for "Our Sorrows," directed by Naomi Yang of Galaxie 500 fame.
In the clip, Holter weaves a ribbon through city streets, busses and buildings before winding up at a rural pathway. While the symbolism is open to interpretation, Yang said in a statement that she "was intrigued by the lyric in the chorus: 'If you call out, I will follow.'" So there definitely seems to be some overtones of personal soul searching going on here.
Ekstasis is out now on RVNG Intl., and Holter is touring through Europe this summer before returning to North America for some fall dates, which include Canadian shows in Montreal on September 21 and Toronto on September 22.
You can see the full list of dates here, and by the sounds of our recent review of Holter's Vancouver show, you'd be wise to try to attend.
