Late Beatles hero John Lennon is set to be the subject of a new documentary, which will shine a light on the final year of his life.
Timed with the 40th anniversary of Lennon's death, the film will be called John Lennon: The Final Year, and it will explore the last year of the artist's life in 1980 before he was assassinated by Mark Chapman at the age of 39.
As Deadline reports, the documentary is being helmed by Reda Films (Brothers in War) and History Television International (The Queen and Us). British distributor Drive is currently shopping the project.
According to the report, the film will feature never-seen-before archive material and interviews with those who spent time with Lennon during that final year of his life.
John Lennon: The Final Year is being executive produced by Reda Films' Scott L. Reda and Mark L. Reda. The producer is Ken Womack, who is also releasing the book John Lennon 1980: The Final Days in the Life of Beatle John on Lennon's birthday of October 9.
In a statement, Lilla Hurst, Drive co-MD, said, "This ground-breaking film gives exclusive access to people who were part of John Lennon's life during his final year and sheds light on a part of his life that hasn't been previously revealed. We were fascinated by this story as soon as it was brought to us, and we look forward to launching the film to the content industry."
Mark L. Reda, creative director of Reda Films, added, "You think you know the story of John Lennon, but this is the remarkable true story of the final year of the Beatle legend."
So far, there is no firm premiere date for John Lennon: The Final Year, but expect the film to arrive sometime in 2020.
